Nasir March 2009 Trip
Nasir, Sudan

Description: Nasir is located along the Sobat River and is just 16 miles from the Ethiopian border. Home to the Nuer tribe, the second largest tribe in southern Sudan, Nasir contains remnants of buildings from missionaries and others who settled there over 50 years ago.

For five months, Moses Project missionary Jengmer Yat trained a group of pastors and church leaders at the Nasir Bible School. Established by Aid Sudan, Nasir Bible School taught Chronological Bible Storying, an oral method of learning highly effective in southern Sudanese culture. The 18 students learned 46 Bible stories and were tested by the March mission team for their final exam. During the trip, all 18 students passed and a special graduation ceremony was held where each student earned a certificate and a Nasir Bible School t-shirt.

Additionally, the team from The Woodlands was able to conduct two days of teacher training and reconnect a southern Sudanese family with a son they hadn't seen in over a decade. Before the trip, a Sudanese Lost Boy named Buay gave the team photos, letters and even a video to give to his family in the small village of Torpuot. In a powerful day that only God could orchestrate, the team fellowshipped with Buay's family by sharing photos and reading letters from their long lost son.
